I started working on “Noiremare” back in 2016. It all began when I saw a documentary on German television featuring a musician discussing his work with minimalist jazz. I found the concept fascinating, but despite my efforts, I couldn’t find any actual examples of his work.
Although I had never produced a jazz-style track before, I felt drawn to explore the idea of minimalist jazz. Interestingly, the final result didn’t end up being minimalist at all, but it was incredibly satisfying.
The song’s structure came together fluently and very quickly. Over the years, I added various touches and then let it rest for a while.
A couple of months ago, I watched the documentaries featuring Paul McCartney and Rick Rubin. The documentaries made me reflect deeply on several topics, particularly musical arrangements. The Beatles’ legacy is inspiring regardless of time or genre. From that moment on, I decided to pay much closer attention to that aspect of my work. I feel that with “Noiremare,” I’ve reached a level I don’t want to lose; I truly believe it is my best song to date.
The Visual Concept
Regarding the video, the visual concept has been clear since “Noiremare” was first conceived. Inspired by 1940s and 50s American Film Noir, I envisioned a story of crime and glamour with characters moving through a fatalistic atmosphere.
Pexels.com gave me the resources to bring the video to life exactly as I had imagined it years ago. With the concept and idea well-defined, the rest of the process flowed naturally. The most time-consuming part, as is often the case, was the fine-tuning of the editing.
Overall, I am very happy with the final result in terms of sound, structure, and arrangement. The footage by cottonbro is fantastic, and I deeply enjoy the editing process. There is something very interesting about piecing together a story using images that were originally filmed for a different purpose.
